Fired Up

Here is a picture of Toomer's Corner on fire after the Iron Bowl last weekend. Apparently some Alabama fan did not like how the game turned out (or the $4 million coach)...

There is youtube video that goes along with the Auburn win that I'll have to post later. "Big Brotha" doesn't like me watching youtube at work. Who woulda thunk?

Getting Old

A couple of events this weekend slapped me in the face that as a person, husband, and father I am getting old. Here are the signs that I am advancing quickly to the blue-hair special and senior citizen discounts:
  • I sprained my wrist throwing Morgan up in the air on Saturday. (I really need to come up with a better story to tell, but I am just lame enough to not really want to come up with one)
  • Jen and I bought our first vehicle this weekend. Its not that we bought a new vehicle, it is the fact that we bought a mini-van!!!!! We are waiting to get our football, soccer, cheerleader, and "My Kid Beat Up Your Honor Student" stickers to truly be THAT family.
What did NOT get old was watching the Auburn Tigers beat up on the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend at the Iron Bowl. For those of you keeping score at home, that would be Auburn winning the last 6 in a row against the toothless Tide from Tusca-loser!

A Southern Tradition

Tomorrow continues the saga of the oldest continuous series in the Deep South: Auburn vs. Georgia.
Perhaps the most remarkable tradition in the series is advantage the visiting team has held over the years. From 1916 through 1958, except for one game in Athens, every game was played in Columbus. Since the series went home-and-home in 1959, Auburn has an 18-9 advantage in Athens and Georgia has a 13-9-2 advantage in Auburn.
The game is at UGA this year - so we are hoping the trend continues!

Quite a weekend

The temperature is finally starting to dip below 2000; even the humidity is below 345% - Fall must be upon us! There are only about 3 weeks of the year here in the Dirty South that I pray and hope for a Jeep, we are now in one of those 3 weeks.

We were able to play outside with Morgan and Sercy last night while I cooked out on the grill. I'll post some pictures later this week. Morgan was having a blast chasing Sercy (who was chasing a soccer ball around the back yard).

Auburn stepped up and finally played to its potential this weekend and crushed all the hearts and spirits of Gator Fans around the world. It was awesome to see the freshman Wes Byrum kick the game winning field goal not once, but twice (find it on YouTube if you didn't see it on ESPN)!

It wasn’t pretty

Here is my favorite quote from the Auburn-Kansas State game this last weekend.

"It wasn’t pretty," Tuberville said. "It was Auburn football - physical, hard-nosed and we won it in the fourth quarter.

Running in a Mental-Vacuum

I set my alarm to go off at 5:15 AM this morning, so I could get my 7 mile run in before the heat scorched the roads around my house. At 4:15 this morning, my crack-berry goes off, I quickly answer the phone after the first *chirp*, hoping that it didn't wake Jen. No such luck.

I look at the clock and think to myself that I have another hour before I have to wake up - I hate having to wake up early, but especially when I have been ripped from my dreams before the alarm clock is set to go off. I close my eyes and in moments it is 5:00 AM. Apparently Jen has been up since worked called and is getting restless - you gotta hate those pregnancy hormones screwing up the sleep cycles.

I get up, get dressed in the dark, head down stairs, check my equipment (that would be my running stuff: shoes, water bottles (did I mention it is hotter than the 12th level of Hell here in the ATL?), reflector vest, and iPod. All are present and accounted for. I opened the front door and was slapped in the face with 93% humidity - this is going to be awesome!

The. Run. Sucked! I am mentally drained and dreading all the runs now, which is not real good considering I have a 15 mile run planned for this weekend in Auburn. (Any one in Auburn want to run 15 miles with me?)

I ended up only running/walking 5.25 miles in about 50 minutes. Not real bad, but not what I am capable of - it is very discouraging. I think it may be time to find a running club to get some extra bodies to run with.

Pot this is Kettle...I just wanted ya'll to meet

Here is the quote of a man with a short-term memory problem.

"Although Saban should have stayed and finished the job with the Miami Dolphins, if his heart was set on coaching at Alabama I can't fault him for making the decision to go there. Coaching is a very unforgiving profession, and you had better love what you're doing and where you're doing it or you probably won't be around very long anyway."

This quote could have been said by anyone (and has been said my nearly everyone), but I thought it was the most ironic coming from Terry Bowden. THE Terry Bowden that was a coach at Auburn University but quit in the middle of the football season in 1998.

"Your word is your bond in this world. and you can't choose when that rule applies and when it does not."

WOW...Can this article have any more perfect quotes from Terry? (It actually is a good article, just a bit hypocritical.)
