New Hard Drive

Two weeks ago my computer crashed. It wasn't the "blue screen of death", it simply did not turn on. After emailing, chatting, and talking with a Dell representative for over 2 weeks, and then waiting for the Resource CDs to arrive, get lost, and then have to order new ones, it was discovered that my hard drive was beyond reviving. It had to be completely replaced!

Replacing a hard drive was not something I really wanted to do. I knew the financial, technical, and personal cost was going to be huge. Luckily, Jen and I bought an extended warranty for the computer when we purchased it from Dell in April '05. This warranty meant that no matter the cause of the hard drive crash, that as long as it was a defective hard drive, not a result of something I did to it, Dell would replace it.

Dude, I got a new Dell hard drive for FREE! (no financial cost)

The representative I was working with (his name was Rithin) said they would send the hard drive to a technician, who would come to the house and replace the drive at no cost to me and then ship the old one back to Dell, again at no cost to me. (no technical cost)

The hard drive was installed yesterday and I installed all the missing drivers and program applications that we use last night.

We are getting a new start! We have a blank hard drive, there are no bugs, caverns of missing data, or unwanted material - it is empty and waiting to be filled. Now comes the hard part - keeping the crap out of my new computer! It wasn't contents of the hard drive that caused it to crash, but it really slowed things down!

It occurred to me this morning that getting a fresh, new lease on life is what happens when we make the decision to follow Christ.

It does not matter what was in our past. All the records are completely removed! All those stupid things we did as teenagers or adults; the many things we had started and did not finish; the names we called ourselves, or names called by others no longer exist.

By the way, all the pictures of Morgan (thousands upon thousands), my music and videos, and the really important stuff was kept on our external hard drive. (no personal cost - other than time)
