Who wants free movies?

Why am I always a day late and dollar short?


After seeing a number of people talking about Redbox on Twitter and now my wife asking me about it, it was time to look into this little gem of a company further.

What did I find?

How about free movies on Wednesdays, $1 a night rentals, and movie drop-off at any Redbox that is convenient? With gas prices increasing and day care costs increasing, I believe we will now be able to afford movie night! Sweet!

Saturday night Jen and I were able to get away for what will probably be the last date night we have before Matthew is born. The choice of movie before me was either 27 dresses or Juno. 

Juno was the movie choice and let me tell you it did not disappoint.  Jen and I both thought it was great.  If you have not seen the movie be sure to watch it somehow - movie theater, Internet download, rental, whatever.

Jen and I then went to three different restaurants to find dinner.  We first tried Bahama Breeze, but were told it would be somewhere between a 60-75 minute wait (no thanks!).  We then tried Bugaboo Creek, the wait was shorter (20 minutes), but after having our tastebuds set for some "bahamian" food, a steak house was not exactly what either of us really wanted.  Finally we agreed up Provino's (an Italian chain - 5 minute wait time).  The food was decent, but at 8:00 and after a phone call from Jen's mom that Morgan was being a terror (I mean 2 year old - screaming in the bath tub that she wanted Mommy to get her out and dry her off), as long as the wait was short it would do.

After dinner we went next door to The Melting Pot for dessert and continued the relaxing night.  We had the Pure Chocolate Fondue.  Strangely enough I was told by Jen that it tasted like hot chocolate - who knew!

It was great to spend some quiet time with Jen.  We are both really excited (and scared) about introducing Matthew to our family.  In 4-6 very short weeks we will have our newest blessing screaming, pooping, peeing, and eating his way into our hearts and yours.  We can't wait!

Shift Happens

If you have the time today, tomorrow, or this weekend watch this entire presentation "Did you know 2.0?". The presentation was developed to get conversations started at local schools about the curriculum they are using to prepare students for the future. The presentation is just about 8 minutes long, but is an important piece to watch and to think about (if you are a parent, a student, or ever planning to have children).

Are the schools you are currently sending your children to preparing them to solve the problems of tomorrow?

Emo, Crying, and Spidey

This weekend I went with Collin to get our "super-hero fix" watching Spider Man 3. I would give this super-hero movie 2.75 out of 5 stars - since when did our world saving, evil stopping super-heroes cry over a relationship? There were times in the movie that the audience was violently laughing, not at a funny line or situation; rather it was when Spidey was having a pity-party and crying over losing his girl-friend.

If the crying was not bad enough. Through the movie, Peter begins to dress Emo (black eye-liner, black hair down in his face, black outfits, etc), and then begins to dance "Travolta-ish" down the street.

Bottom-line: Super heroes don't cry; dress Emo; or dance like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever!

Spider Man did have some funny scenes, but overall the story was weak and I really couldn't get over the black eye-liner, prancing in the streets, and the crying. What a wuss!

The Last Mimzy (2007)

Just by viewing the trailer I am interested. Futuristic shapes and increased mental capacity? What's not to like?




The movie is based on the 1943 short-story called "Mimsy were the Borogroves" written by Lewis Padgett. If the movie blows, at least I'll have something new to add to my library.

The Gym of the Soul

Guess who said it? Well, according to the article written by Stuart Shepard, managing editor of CitizenLink.com (except the website is citizenlink.org???) it was none other than Rocky Balboa (ok, actually it was Sylvester Stallone).

The interview was being given in a teleconference with pastors and religious leaders about the latest (and hopefully last, he is just getting too old) Rocky movie - Rocky 6: Rocky Balboa.

Stallone says this about Rocky:

"It's like he was being chosen, Jesus was over him, and he was going to be the fella that would live through the example of Christ," Stallone said. "He's very, very forgiving. There's no bitterness in him. He always turns the other cheek. And it's like his whole life was about service."
