MARTA its Smarter?

The Atlanta area has its own version of public transportation called MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transport Authority). A couple of the advertisements for MARTA are:

• If you took MARTA you'd be there by now!

• MARTA its sMARTA

Both of which are really dumb, but it's Atlanta, so aim low and expect not to reach that without government assistance.

Anyway.

On New Year's Eve there were three different incidents with escalator's gone wild. Here are a couple lines from the article:

The riders described a chaotic scene with dozens of people being dumped onto the floor as the escalator briefly stopped and then started running in reverse, rapidly gaining speed for several seconds. "I looked down at the escalator and there were two or three layers of people with arms reached out to me," Razum said.

People near the top of the escalator lost their footing first and fell onto those below, collapsing them like dominoes, according to eyewitnesses.Within seconds, about 50 people were in a heap on the brick floor below.

The last time I rode MARTA the train I was on broke down a station prior to the one I needed and the up escalator stopped; both of which would not have really been that big of a deal, but my sister-n-law and I were on the way to the inaugural ING Half-Marathon along with thousands of other runners (some of which were stuck in a train and then had to walk a couple miles prior to the start of the race)!
