Yesterday at church, the Senior Pastor read a letter that in his words "most of you won't see coming". He read his resignation letter as his sermon on hope. He planted our church in NE Atlanta a little more than 10 years ago and with God's guidance grew the church from a hand full of people meeting in the cafeteria of a local school to a newly constructed worship center that can seat more than 1000.
He is going to be missed greatly. It was through him that God lead Jen and I to this church 2-3 years ago. Although I understand the reason behind his resignation (e.g., "burning the candle on both ends", the focus more on the church than on other important things, like family), I am still upset that he is leaving "me"! =) (I know it is not just me, but come on...)
He challenged me each week to work harder to improve my relationship with Christ and with those around me. He had an amazing way to relate normal everyday experiences and make the connection to the Word and show its application to life.
Many thoughts and prayers for the Sr. Pastor and his family; the church congregation during this time of change; the newly appointed Sr. Pastor (whom will begin within in the next few weeks).
On a lighter side, Jen and I had always said that it would be difficult to move from our current location because of our church (we both want to be closer to our offices and out of our neighborhood), at least now we are more open to moving! So I guess we'll see in the next month or so if we are "church shopping" in the Atlanta area.
