Mr. Coxe said the sharp rise in raw food prices in the past year will intensify in the next few years amid increased demand for meat and dairy products from the growing middle classes of countries such as China and India as well as heavy demand from the biofuels industry. The food at the center of the crisis is corn. Corn is used as the main ingredient in the US's ethanol production (in Brazil, the core ingredient in ethanol is sugar cane). The increase cost of corn directly increases the cost of other feeds for livestock.
We need to quit focusing on ethanol (bio-fuels) and put our money into electric cars!
